Kingston University : Fashion BA (Hons)

2010 fashion graduate collections from Ross Williams, Jaskiran Hare and Alice Gibberd at GFW 2011.

“At Kingston University, our students have devoted a huge amount of time to finding out how to put together responsible collections. Their emphasis has been on creating a new type of luxury which is less about glamour and much more about producing good quality, long-lasting garments that can become classic signature pieces for their owners.” Course Director Elinor Renfrew

Catwalkqueen: “There was a lot of buzz about the Kingston show, and, after an appropriately fashionable wait, the lights went up to an exciting show.”

BitchBuzz: "Standing out amongst the universities showing on the first day was Kingston who consistently demonstrated high levels of technical skills combined with creative and original designs."

Fab Sugar UK: "I was incredibly impressed by the high level of quality of the Kingston University show.  Each of the students ensured their pieces were finished to a high spec showing their individual style. There was a lot of cohesion within the mini collection too as they ran with a theme and stuck to it."

Fashion156: "Kingston University has outdone themselves this year there was something outstanding within each collection."

This year’s students who collectively specialise in Womenswear, Menswear and Knitwear have already secured design positions, post graduate places and have already enjoyed internships through our sponsorship network.

Brooks Brothers have supported our show before and continue to offer their excellent internships for our 2nd Year fashion students in their design headquarters in New York They also exhibit the winning outfits in New York and their London flagship store during Fashion Week.

We are delighted to continue our relationship with Dewhirst again this year and also have three new excusive sponsors this year and three new course sponsors – Banana Republic, who have also offered paid internships in New York, as well as French Connection and John Smedley, who have offered awards, placements and scholarships for our students this year.

And what of our graduates’ careers?

We are very excited for Sophie Hulme, http://www.sophiehulme.com/MainMenu.html who only graduated from Kingston in summer 2007. Sophie’s debut collection for autumn/winter 2008/09 was snapped up by Selfridges and now her designs are available at key fashion stores globally, including The Convenience Store in London owned by Andrew Ibi who is also a tutor at Kingston.

Kingston graduates continue to gain design positions in the UK and overseas  on completion of the BA Fashion degree. For example, 2006 graduates went on to take up positions with key fashion companies across all levels of the market, such as Stella McCartney, H&M, All Saints, Abercrombie & Fitch and Karen Millen.

2007 graduates went on to work for Jaeger Menswear, Hugo Boss, American Eagle, Burberry, Massimo Dutti, Zara and Wonderland magazine.
The graduate group from summer 2008 left university to work for Mulberry, Max Mara, Markus Lupfer, Reiss, River Island, Religion…and so the list goes on..

Course Director Elinor Renfrew sees a definite change taking place in the type of designs that will be important in fashion over the next few years and, consequently, the type of designers needed to create these collections.
