GoodWeave is the new labelling initiative of RugMark, a not-for-profit organisation concerned with eradicating child labour in the rug industries of Nepal and India. By entering this design competition GoodWeave hopes to encourage tomorrow's designers to become more aware of the ethical and social issues involved in the rug industry.
This years theme is Retro Funk with two mood boards, a colour palette and a written brief for students to use for inspiration. For more information see here.
Entrants are asked to demonstrate their creative and technical skills to design a hand-knotted rug, in wool and or wool and silk, with commercial appeal to consumers looking to spend over £1000 per rug. The winner will receive a £300 design fee for their design, which will be expertly hand-knotted in Nepal, for exhibition at the leading London interior design show, Decorex International 2012.
In addition, the winner will receive a 45 x 45cms hand-knotted strike-off. Up to six highly commended entries will receive a 45 x 45cms hand-knotted ‘strike-off’ of their design and the designs will be exhibited at Decorex International 2012.
