Arctic Paper awards three artist scholarships in Berlin.

How does the digitization affect our world? How to establish an inspirational relationship between the tangible and the virtual? How significant will be paper, the ancient culture bearer, in our time?

In order to find answers to these questions, Arctic Paper awards three scholarships in the summer months (July, August, and September) of the year 2013. The international scholarships will be awarded to artists and creatives of all artistic disciplines focusing on the topic of paper.

In the Munken Works Space – a Pop-Up Atelier in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg quarter, designed specifically for the scholarship – three selected artists may live and work for four weeks.

During this time they will have the opportunity to take an individual inventory with regard to the tension of “Analog and Digital”. Their results will be displayed to the public on paper, in blogs and exhibitions. There are plans for the Munken Works Space to tour in Europe in 2014.

Munken has led the way in uncoated paper for many years as the perfect carrier for creative work. The Munken Design range is produced in Munkedal, a village abut 100 km north of Gothenburg. The mill Arctic Paper Munkedals is situated on the west coast of Sweden, by the Örekil River. The river is one of Sweden’s richest in salmon, and it flows into the country’s only threshold fjord, Gullmarn. Both the river and the fjord are conservation areas. The mill today is one of the most environmentally-friendly paper mills in the world, established in 1871.
