Indoor Outdoor Flooring
Looking at plants growing in unusual places and the juxtaposition of soft flowers in hard environments led me on to looking at putting traditional stitches in unusual materials. My interest in interior/exterior furnishings and natural materials helped me decide to create a series of rugs that could be threaded and rethreaded to fit different spaces and shapes, and could go inside or out, as well as being easy to repair and compost at the end of their life span.
Using reclaimed wood and cotton rope, along with a small amount of brass, I designed these pieces to have a simple, repetitive look and printed lightly onto the surface of some of them to give a different texture.
City Veneer
An interest in the journeys I make led me to map out a week's worth of travel and to paint the resulting maps. From the paintings I created prints on veneer which I then hand formed into curves based on my original routes.
Spring Light
Enjoying the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany led me to play with coloured torches. Having photographed the glowing lines they made, I went on to translate these images into tufted grids which spring back into shape when pulled upon. These are made using
