As the form related to their functions wanes with decay, they reach a point where they become useless and their original purpose obscured by their degenerated appearance. The corrosion gives each a unique pattern of vibrant colours and textures.

Rusting, corroding and disintegrating found metal objects inspire my practice.

As the form related to their functions wanes with decay, they reach a point where they become useless and their original purpose obscured by their degenerated appearance. The corrosion gives each a unique pattern of vibrant colours and textures. 

I am fascinated by the transitional zone in which something that looks decayed crosses over into loss of function.

I translate these observed qualities using stretching, tearing and cracking to give a worn and decayed surface. This process results in the impression of a functionless pot, challenging the preconceived language of function in pottery.

I have also been exploring the process of salt firing, which has given me a new way of translating the visual effects that inspire my work.

Using this captivating firing process I can achieve the vibrant colours that I have found within the disintegrating metal objects.
