Chris Lawley ?
Rusting, corroding and disintegrating found metal objects inspire my practice.
As the form related to their functions wanes with decay, they reach a point where they become useless and their original purpose obscured by their degenerated appearance. The corrosion gives each a unique pattern of vibrant colours and textures.
Decayed Qualities
Detailed close ups of final outcomes of altering the forms, drawing influence from the rusted objects that have inspired this body of work.
Exploring Surface Qualities
Taking inspiration from rusted objects I have explored the ceramic surface by building up layers and altering the forms to give the impression of a functionless pot.
Salt Fired Ceramics
In a recent opportunity to use salt firing I have translated the expressive marks from the earthenware work to a more functional high fired process allowing the salt to highlight the marks and methods I use on the surface.
