I look for the qualities in objects which make experiences exciting. For me, it is the experience had with an object which justifies its existence. If an object does not resonate with the user, or bring a smile, or a scowl, or bring anything to the table in the way it is used and lived with, it shouldn't exist.  

I think a subtle change to a convention and novelty employed sensitively can provoke thought and draw attention from the user of the object. Follow through with the use of a nice material, colour, tactile surface - and the object is worth owning. So I try to do that when I can.

I place the making process of the product extremely high as something which should inform the design. I don't often design anything which I wouldn't want to manufacture myself.

If everything except practicality in the material, making process, and functionality are striped away, what is left are the authentic human quirks created by the designer and everyone else who touched the product throughout its creation.
