My work is based on a memorable childhood book, “The Mammoth Hunt”, from which I have taken bones as a visual reference.
I have created a forward thinking graduate collection, which aims to alter the perception of bones as a subject matter by bringing a feminine, playful feel through colour and abstraction. My concept is bound by untraditional embroidery techniques including hand painted, laser cut wood and acrylic, applied leather shapes and couched leather cord.
I focused on irregular shapes and depth. Isolating shapes enabled me to move away from the dark, literal translations of bones usually seen in fashion.
Sustainability has been imminent with my fabric choices, following a discussion on this matter in my dissertation.
Sponsorship:
My graduate collection is sponsored by Offset Warehouse, an ethical fashion and interiors supplier who source ethical fabrics from around the world.
Achievements:
Commendation awarded by Bridge of Weir Leather Company for an "Outstanding feature".
