Surface Pattern Design BA (Hons)
With its endless power to stimulate the mind and evoke intense emotions, it is a strong personal connection to music that forms the core focus of Fiona Dowling’s work.
Fiona Dowling is a recent graduate of BA (Hons) Surface Pattern Design (Contemporary Applied Arts Practice) from Swansea Metropolitan University.
She has previously exhibited at several locations around South Wales, including Ffotogallery, Penarth and the Elysium Gallery, Swansea.
Beginning her artistic process by listening to and observing others move to music, Fiona Dowling translates what she sees, hears and feels in that direct moment onto paper or through a camera in the form of expressive lines, shapes, patterns and textures.
With laser cutting and engraving as key processes, she explores ways to layer this imagery in order to create distinctive ‘visual soundscapes’ that reflect this spontaneous emotional response, encased within self-imposed spatial blocks that define each series of impulsive reactions.
