Being a Surface Designer, I aim to seek out unconventional materials and techniques and combine them in new ways to create functional and decorative surfaces. 

My graduate collection ‘Paper-Knotwood’ is a new material with similar properties to wood, which I’ve developed using a refined production technique and layers of coloured paper.

The collection I am currently showing is based on the idea of up-cycling, by reversing the normal process, and making a wood-like material from paper. This design creates a sustainable hard material that looks, reacts and can be used in a similar way to wood but made in bespoke colour patterns. 

Through my development I have also created ‘Paper Veneers’ which could be used for an array of surface coverings from furniture to interior accessories.

This material can be cut, sanded and machined, and through the use of CAD, designs can be placed on or cut into the material. Changing the direction of the cut reveals different layers of colour altering the grain pattern of the material, making each piece a unique design.
