I am interested in challenging traditional notions of what jewellery is or should be.

Overlapping linear structures in the landscape provide a fascination for me, in particular decaying and dilapidated industrial buildings and structures which nature is slowly reclaiming.

 My aim for these wearable pieces of art is to retain the sketched quality of the ink-drawn line through the use of wire and built frameworks with intersecting lines. I work with a mixture of metals: silver, gilding wire, copper, iron and the use soldering and cold-fastening techniques to create the pieces. Looking back to my childhood, I realise the linear and industrial structures must have been imprinted on my brain, in the back seat of the car, driving past the blast furnaces and cooling towers of Scunthorpe steelworks, and being taken to watch the Humber Bridge being built.

 I want the work to convey a sense of the place which inspired me in my work, while also celebrating a beauty in imperfection and decay.
