Isobelle Ancients work is a contemporary take on folk art - using mixed media, to create 3D unique, whimsical animal characters.

The pieces consist of mixed media items  - with hand picked and often vintage pieces, hand-made ceramic pieces, paper mache, collage and delicate stitches and embroidered textures. The use of found and distressed vintage objects make the items look like they are from a past time, and have lived a full life.

Her work has been inspired by American and British folk art, as the rustic, naive appearance is very appealing. As in folk art, she has played with proportion to give the articles a primitive feel.

The pieces create nostalgia and a sense of curiosity in the viewer. Each object is a one-off and they have unique characters, evocative of the kind of animal they are representing.
