Statement

Creating mixed media textile pieces, aimed at a female couture fashion market is my main objective. The concept of my work emerges from the process, which can involve photography, drawing and installation, using a wide mixture of materials, to arrive at a final idea.

I am interested in utilizing incongruous source material within the context of a fashion market, and so my final project is about extracting imagery and structure from curious life forms, as well as bones and carcasses: finding beauty in the grotesque.

I would like to work for an in-house textile design studio, in an environment where there is a creative atmosphere and ideas are shared, ideally producing elaborate fabrics, which evoke a mood and narrative for a variety of purposes. However I am open to all possibilities, such as designing fabrics for fashion or costume, as well as furniture and interiors or even styling for editorials.??

My Embroidery degree at MMU has given me so much in terms of technical training and support, and I have gained life long skills which will benefit my practice for years to come. These being printing, dying, fabric manipulation, embellishment and hand and machine embroidery.

The degree has also facilitated my possibilities in harnessing drawing and painting skills within an embroidery context, hopefully pushing the boundaries of how embroidery is perceived.
