As an undergraduate I was heavily influenced by youth culture and graffiti and produced a range of designs for flooring and print that incorporated my varied inspiration in a colourful and multidimensional way. I created large rugs that could be hung on walls and printed images and text onto the surface of the pile.  I used dye to spray sections of the rugs as a direct reference to my interest in graffiti.

After graduation I focused on developing a career in teaching. 7 years on and now comfortable and confident in that role I felt the time was right to return to my studies and continue with my textiles work.

Through my MA I have continued to expore graffiti, this time in a less literal sense - considering the idea of decorating a surface and the places where graffiti may be found.  I became interested in guerilla gardening and natural graffiti and the often unsuccessful attempts local councils made to prevent vandalism, for example growing ivy against brick walls.

This led me to look at incorporating growth and natural life into my work, whilst maintaining the abstract and minimal design style I had grown to feel comfortable working with.  Now I am developing a range of outdoor tufted bricks that can be used as a statement in an outdoor setting, which I hope to refine into a viable product.
