Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Li-Chu is a Taiwanese designer jeweller based in the UK.

Li-Chu Wu trained in Metalsmithing & Jewellery Design at Fu Jen Catholic University then completed a Masters in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Related Products at Birmingham City University. After completing her MA studies, Li-Chu has been selected into a programme, Design Space, which supported by the Birmingham City Council and the European Regional Development Fund. It provided her a free studio space to start her own career as an independent designer jeweller.

Li-Chu’s work is all about paper and layers; using multiple layers to create subtle movement and tactile qualities. Applying a mix of metalsmithing techniques and new technologies, Li-Chu’s designs consist of a series of paper, silver, one-off, wearable pieces and body adornments. Paper is layered and manipulate in a way that expands an inner space in a concentric format and spreads and grows up from the centre. With the material and colour that she choose it gives her work a rich tactile quality and interactive function. Her work shows the values of material and also recreates the link between the material and its original source in the natural environment. Natural forms, processes and movement inspire her to make a collection of paper jewellery.

She explores the material with the relationship between nature, time and herself. She exhibits worldwide including Germany, Portugal, Hungary, Belgium, Switzerland, USA, Taiwan, China and the United Kingdom.
