Participation of others is fundamental to my work. I enjoy meeting, conversing and spending time with people and this way of working has quite naturally become part of my practice. 

The use of recycled or upcycled clothes and fabrics, is very much part of my ethos and the memory the previous owner has left to the cloth adds a further dimension to the work. 

Denim Yarns’ is the culmination of friends and family’s stories and memories of denim, some happy, some sad and some hilarious.

The gathering and recounting of the narrative forming an equally important aspect of the work, as the making of the quilt itself.

In the Denim Yarns series of work I have upcycled denim jeans and army surplus blankets. The treatment and handling of the fabric has been influenced by my love of traditional Japanese textile techniques of Boro  and Sashiko.
