Having always had a love for all things arty and crafty, I have picked up many skills, not only through my college and university years but also from family members, such as my grandmothers, who taught me to cross-stitch, knit and crochet.

I have also attended classes and workshops learning how to make jewellery in Covent Garden, Purl My Knitting at the Stitch & Craft Show last March at Olympia and Create an embroidered garden at Alexandra Palace.

I have even picked up tips and tricks from across the virtual world. When researching for my dissertation titled ‘Our paths never crossed until we stitched – Revival of crafts through social networking’ I received information from across the globe, which led me to many new websites and finishing ideas for my stitching pieces.

I therefore turn to these teachings as a way of developing my creations and bringing them to life, as being able to bring them into my work through different media, especially print, is truly exciting. To see a new design printed/stitched and transformed into scarves, cushions and garments is fulfilling in every way.

I have always been keen to follow a career that allows for continued learning and there is always something to learn within the creative industry from anyone and any age. I’ve loved teaching my friends how to stitch and knit etc that I am now looking to bring back these crafts into the classrooms. They were once a great art in schools and now they are seen as ‘nanny crafts’ I believe it’s time for change.
