Rather than finding a stone to fit my jewellery, they inspire my designs. I study the textural structures and shapes of and create my own gemstones through drawing, model making and casting.

Casting can be an uncertain process when pushed to its limits, unexpected changes and effects can occur.

I am excited and intrigued by the outcome of casting and find an important relationship between this and the natural growth of minerals and gemstones.

Texture is a vital and stimulating exploration for me, as I aim to replicate the surfaces of gemstones and minerals. I push the capabilities of metal and go beyond the typical techniques of creating textures.

Mixing my own creations with found gemstones and minerals inspires my design process and drawing. Many of my jewellery pieces combine natural objects with my casts.

I want to achieve a feel for growth and wanted my metalwork to be an extension rather than an addition to the stones.
