Merel Karhof is a Dutch designer who lives and works in London.

An avid traveller, Merel draws inspiration from putting herself in different contexts, looking each time with a new view on the world.

At 18, Merel spent a year in Italy, where she became fluent in the Italian language. On her return to the Netherlands she attended the Design Academy in Eindhoven. She graduated from the Man and Leisure department that was led by Irene Fortuyn.

In 2007 Merel received a bursary from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds with which she started to follow an MA at the Royal College of Art in London. She studied at Platform two led by Jurgen Bey and Martino Gamper.

Since graduating she has been invited on a number of occasions to take up residencies in Europe, amongst others for Fondazione Claudio Buziol in Venice.

She currently runs a workshop in collaboration with the ICA in London. Merel's work is a combination of art, science and craftsmanship.In her research based way of working she develops her own tools and products which function as ‘three-dimensional sketchbooks’ which visualise her research.
