Exploring hidden messages with the use of digital transfer. The representation of a person, and how the broken exterior gives an insight into the vulnerability contained on the inside. Using memorials and graves stones as a starting point for visual inspiration I created this wheel thrown vessel out of Stoneware clay. I introduced a tear into the body of the vessel to portray a broken down exterior, allowing the hidden message to become more exposed: in turn, making the piece more vulnerable. Tattered and Torn
The vertical tear within this form gives the piece depth, the deep black finish gives the piece an element of strength overcoming the vulnerability that is introduced by the tear.
Tiny Vessels
Small tapered forms fired in a reducing atmosphere, bringing the colours to life and adding an element of surprise to the forms as the results of each firing can vary.
