I am a graduate fashion student from the Edinburgh College of Art 2011, where over the past 4 years I have developed a love for many aspects of fashion design. Particularly with in the last two years, I have moved into Knitwear design, which is now where I feel my strength lies.

Most of my inspiration comes from a personal approach to the idea of research. I love to find out things about myself while expressing these themes in terms of fashion.

This year, for my graduate collection, I looked towards my perceptions of home, how and why home could influence me. In photographing my home, I was drawn towards the tiny details within the open space of a room; in particular cornice designs and wood carvings.

It was in abstracting and developing patterns within knitwear from these details that I was able to very literally reflect perceptions of my home in my garments.

Through this collection, I have shown a clear ability to explore and create garments within the knitwear field, which is where I hope to work and continue to learn.

As well as skills in garment design and constructions, both with knit and woven fabrics, the course has also helped me develop skills in pattern cutting, drawing, Photoshop and Illustrator.

My design philosophy includes designing everyday clothes for young women of every size which I think is important, especially within knitwear, where you should always feel comfortable. I also think it’s important to have a real personal connection to the ideas and research behind the garments I am design, which is why I chose the research path of “home”.
