I am a Surface Designer that specialises in visual communications and stitched data.

With a strong interest in technology and how people interact, for my graduate project I made a collection of wood samples with stitched data for the use of interiors.

The collection wass based on connections, and represents the people I connected with in the UK over a six day period via a Facebook page I created, ‘It’s a Small World After All.’

Within this group I wanted to test the theory of ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ and wanted to connect with as many people that I didn’t know as well as connecting with people that I did know. 

Using wood and stitch I created samples that are a visual representation of geographically correct data from this Facebook group. 

The different thicknesses of elastic, the layering of elastic and the different colours represent the different connections I have with each person. 

The wood stain is based on layered imagery of how I connect to people through the internet, for example through cables and electronic devices.
