Silvia's collection is inspired by ethnographical study of peasant artifacts. When she returns to Slovakia she is not interested in the new, instead, she finds fascination within the old relics that transport to a different time and place. Silvia is captivated by simple beauty of agrarian vessels used mainly for gathering and storing harvest.
The rudimentary decoration is made by simple implements and influenced by old photographs; marks left behind in the landscape, harvested fields on the hillsides, and small houses beautifully painted with uncomplicated graphic ornaments.
This collection is made by press molding into large drop out mould and two part case mould. Each piece is altered in the mould and decorated while the clay is still soft by sgraffito and coloured porcelain slips. The smaller pieces are thrown on potters wheel.
The selected palette derives from colours predominantly seen on peasant ceramic vessels. The pieces are glazed with matt glaze and fired to 1220 C. Surfaces left unglazed are treated with natural bees wax.
Handles are hand carved from green oak and leather is stitched on with natural yarn.
