I am first and foremost a maker; the processes that go into a piece of work are just as important to me as the final piece itself.

I have recently turned to painting on glass, using the transparent qualities of the material to create new depth to my drawings, having the extra variable of light to contend with in creating a piece of work offers new and exciting challenges.

This current body of work explores my thoughts around the theme of cancer. My family has suffered greatly to this disease and I needed to find a release for this through my art. The nature of glass lends itself well to the fragility of human life and to memorialising my family who’ve had the disease.

I also turned to more graphic imagery exploring what’s going on in my head; ‘State of Mind’ is a culmination of everything one goes through whilst coping with cancer, the unanswered questions, and the despair. I found another unusual image that correlates to these feelings in the bowel, the twisting turning, ‘gut-wrenching’, creates striking imagery when layered up through the glass, bringing with it a sense of movement, passage.
