Sonja Bessant, a former Event Manager, left the corporate world to follow her dream to become a jewellery designer and maker.

Sonja is inspired by the geometry, pattern and structure that is to be found in apparent chaos. From childhood Sonja found herself attracted to patterns and shapes that has moved into a lifelong interest.

Sonja’s current work looks at the geometry and patterns in city maps. “Squares and triangles of all shapes, circles and ovals seem to come to life and almost demand to be taken out of the map to be treasured and admired on their own.”

Sonja etches messages and pictures onto her pieces which uncover a personal response to a chosen area. She uses words on her jewellery as a response to the question of whether words always have to have a deep meaning or if “thoughts die the moment they are embodied by words” (Arthur Schopenhauer).

Individual clients can etch their own words, feelings, thoughts, memories or even pictures to create bespoke pieces of jewellery.
