Project Statement

Colours are my words, emotions and memories.

My work has started with an enthusiastic approach to colours through natural dyeing, reusing food scraps as well as traditional dyes, with the concept of strong concerns for sustainability and ethical issues.

Juxtaposed to this, I am also fascinated by the quality of synthetic objects and materials. The project 'Organic Colours' demonstrate sophisticated use of naturally dyed colours and original and contrasting use of natural and manmade materials, reflecting the symbiosis between humans and nature.

The large length of hand-dyed, hand-woven fabric is made from naturally dyed organic cotton. Following my own brief that insists to be as eco/human-friendly as possible, I don’t use any heavy metal mordant to fix the natural colours.

The smaller length consists of a series of experimental sample swatches, exploring the contrasting use of natural and synthetic material. The innovative use of knitted monofilament on a cotton warp gives the fabric interesting and tactile texture.
