My sculptures reflect qualities of fragmentation, fluidity, gravity, decay and fragility. In my mind, clay is not a material that can only be appreciated in perfection. There is splendour in the torn, cracked and broken elements of the material.
My experimentation with clay is about pushing the process and the method of making to the limits of what the material is capable of…the true beauty of the accidental.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…I constantly see the beauty in the ephemeral of everyday life. I use clay to create enduring traces of items largely considered waste. Once cast with clay, they evolve into new abstract compositions.
Incidental making allows me to explore the beauty of abstract form. I am framing the incidental in order to produce something monumental. In my work I challenge the perception of what visually engages the observer. I encourage multiple interpretation of my work. I am interested in capturing beauty which might otherwise be overlooked in everyday life and capturing the viewer’s attention.
