My research has consistently investigated order and structure from the mapping of various sword cuts practiced within the martial art of Iaido through to mathematically plotting the movement of chess pieces allowed within the rules of Chess.

My creative practice celebrates the order and structure that I have researched, milling responsibly sourced African Black Wood, also known as Mpingo, and inlaying with sliver and brass. I use contrasting materials in my work to highlight the design and the beauty of the materials.

The artefacts I create are intended to be handled meaning the tactile qualities are paramount. I enjoy the reactions of surprise that my work feels smooth combined with the weight of the object. These are pieces designed to be used and if people feel comfortable handling them thatcan only be a positive aspect on my creative practice.
