My work explores sculptural forms. Inspiration for my work comes from origami and Japanese architecture.

For this reason triangles and wedges became predominant shapes.

These forms define the architecture of Tokyo, are echoed in Japanese fashion, and contribute to my concept for this design. Having explored the use of several materials, I chose wood to give structure to my garments. It had the desired texture and appearance, weight and stiffness.

I chose to use American Black Walnut wood veneer for its richness in colour, this is then backed with adhesive and laser cut into the shapes required for my designs.

The wood is then fused to the fabric to add structure and volume. The natural grain of the wood adds individuality to each piece.

These are not utilitarian garments; the collection is a statement and is targeted at the high-fashion end of the market.

I would, however, anticipate features of the design filtering to the high street and to the accessories and interior markets.
