An elephant in a china shop? No – just heavy industrial robots in a landscape of glass. As part of Stockholm Design Week 4-10 February 2013, Glass Elephant, a design installation in the borderland between industrial design, craftsmanship and performance, is on show in the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities’ Skeppsholmen Caverns.
Each year in February over 40,000 purchasers, architects, designers and journalists descend on Stockholm to visit the exhibition and a number of other high-profile design events held elsewhere in the city.
Stockholm Design Week includes the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair – the world’s largest exhibition for Scandinavian furniture and lighting design.
This will be the third year in a row that Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair stages its combined exhibition and talk show Hello!, an initiative by the fair to start a conversation about contemporary and future workplaces. This year’s theme is ‘Communication’ and the task of interpreting the main thematic design will be shared by Swedish architect Gert Wingårdh and Finnish illustrator Kustaa Saksi.
