Stockholm Furniture Fair

Stockholm Furniture Fair is the world’s biggest meeting place for Nordic design. Here you will find the most comprehensive range of furniture, offices, design, textiles and other interior design for both the home and the public environment. The Northern Light Fair (lighting) takes place alongside the Furniture Fair. Approximately 650 exhibitors (750 in total together with Northern Light Fair) display their products and get the chance to meet roughly 40,000 visitors.

Greenhouse is the special section for selected international design schools and newly-qualified designers - individuals with more creative energy than financial muscle. The aim is to create the opportunity for exciting meetings and fruitful partnerships between the industry of today and the design profiles of tomorrow.

The Guest of Honour at this edition of Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair is British designer Paul Smith who is creating a lounge that comprises four elements. The first room contains a wall that is entirely covered with pictures of flowers taken by Paul Smith. Not just because he likes flowers, but also because he wants to bring a bit of nature into the lounge. In another room he pays homage to Italian architect and designer Giò Ponti. The walls in this room are swathed in covers from the magazine Domus, which was established by Ponti. Giò Ponti is one of Paul Smith’s biggest sources of inspiration. The third element is made up of an expressive collection of images from Paul Smith’s boutiques. The fourth is called “Sent things” and comprises things that Paul Smith has been sent by a mysterious admirer over a number of years.

In the exhibition "What were they thinking?" Stockholm Furniture Fair & Northern Light Fair 2010 will be featuring some of the Nordic regions' leading talents within the field of architecture. The exhibition focuses on the working process itself.

Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair is putting on the exhibition “What were they thinking?” in partnership with the periodical Forum, the magazine for Nordic architecture, interior decor and design. The exhibition highlights and displays the working process – from ordering the assignment, via research and analysis, approved ideas as well as the ones that are discarded, challenges and problems, right up to the final result.
