Resistencia SS19 is inspired by the need to empower women through messages and stories in the highlighting of the crime of Femicide, increasing in Latin America at a rate of over 15% per year.

WILLKAS comes from the myth of Pachamama (mother earth) and Pachacamac (the creator) and the story of their twins the WILLKAS, a boy and a girl that represented duality in Peruvian Cosmo vision. Their journey through the human world were they have to deal with adversities and fight to survive. Ending victorious and rewarded by the Gods and transformed one in the moon and the other one in the sun to bring back the balance in the earth.

Taking this paradigm into a contemporary Peru, and start the journey of “the willkas of the present” (Peruvian children of low resources) and how they have to go through the same adversities in their everyday life. A duality of sense were the myth and reality play a combination to be represented in this children.

JIHYUN KIM - alumna Pratt School of Design, Fashion BFA (shown left)

Rococo In Materiality is inspired by the Rococo movement; 18th century European style or Late Baroque, re- vealing theatricality in general mood, and the use of indulgent details and dense ornaments, to integrate with S’MM’s materiality perspective.

The collection, only rendered in black and white in various textiles, is iterated in stretch blended wool, tinsel knit, cotton, neoprene, paper, and vinyl that accentuated the Rococo ornamented style by costume self, instead of using ornamenting details and accessories. The Mélange of contrasting textures and black and white colors shows minimalistic vision of S’MM.

Silhouettes are oversized and rounded with ru e details, denote the Rococo style and emphasized theatrical feeling. Oversized puff sleeves neoprene dress and top, and ruffled dress that appeared the way of integrating between the Rococo movement and materiality. Straight pants with tinsel knit top and hoodie sweatshirt with plasticky skirt implies new vision of ornamenting and showed modern minimal Rococo style.
