About

Im Emily Wood, a 23 year old designer from Tamaki Makaurau, Aoeteroa, recently graduated from Massey University with a degree in Textile Design.

I am greatly interested in the world of textiles specifically in Fashion. From weaving to screen printing to knitwear, ive loved it all. I also have skills in felting, surface design, and sewing.

My final year of University confirmed where my main interest is, knitwear. I love the process of bringing textile knowledge into a fashion medium, being able to explore both stitch types and garment design.

Since leaving University Ive been working as a Knitwear Designer at a knitting factory. In this job I work closely with brands to bring the knitwear ideas to life as well as contribute to the design of the in house knitwear brand.

Knitting is one of my biggest passions. I am thrilled to be able to do it everyday.

Formed in Knit explores the dialogue between the body, material, and structure through experimental knitwear. This project investigates how knitted textiles can move beyond surface design to become three-dimensional, wearable forms that reshape and distort the body. Using combinations of wool and wire, the work pushes knit beyond its traditional softness, creating tension between flexibility and rigidity. Each piece is both garment and sculpture, blurring the boundaries of fashion and art. Formed in Knit challenges perceptions of knitwear, presenting it not only as clothing but as an evolving structural language of form, movement, and transformation.
