About
Shifan Xue, a visual artist and graphic designer based in Beijing and London. Her practice explores themes of society, nature, philosophy and evolving identity. Grounded in observations of everyday life, she continually enriches the diversity of creative practice.
Meanwhile, Shifan works with a diverse set of cultural institutions on projects including posters, publications, brand identities and exhibition design, beyond these, she also develops independent works in type design, illustration, installations, and moving image.
Her work seeks a balance between personal narratives and collective narratives through vivid yet refined visual language.
This project traces two threads: the measurement and perception of time. It asks how we might experience time differently, so as not to be trapped inside it. Presented as four independent yet interconnected books, it forms a non-linear, mutually annotated reading system. Varying in size and layout, the books are stacked like overlapping shadows, creating a fluid narrative of time’s material traces and a quiet exercise in how visual structure shapes reading rhythm.
