The Academy of Fine Arts and Design Bratislava opened its doors to showcase projects by current students and 2022 MA graduates. The show features projects from multiple disciplines including photography, textiles, applied arts, visual communication, printmaking, architecture, transport, painting and intermedia courses.

Graduates

Jewellery designer Ivana Tilešová showed her Identita project which experiments with using scars, tattoos and marks on the human body and turning them into pieces that act almost as an xray through the wearer's clothes, revealing the hidden story of their skin.

Patrícia Chamrazová showed Accidents of Connection which explores the border between the real and the virtual world. Inspired by experiences of entering 3D virtual environments, Chamrazová  explores the tension between the feeling of physical movement through an avatar body in a computer generated environment. 'This experience and all the feelings associated with it formed the basis for this work and research, which tried to deal with the complexity of the virtuality and corporeality of our bodies,' writes Chamrazová.

The Bručoun Toby story book by Johanka Janošíková uses digital collage to tell the tale of a young boy who is miserable about everything. Janošíková explains: '. I worked with topics such as negative perceptions of myself or the world around us, low self-esteem or loneliness. I was motivated to work on this story by my own experiences.'

Student projects

Visibility Is A Trap by Klára Kusá is a mixed media project consisting of posters and video exploring the themes of censorship, capitalism and identity on the internet. Text in the video reads: 'Maybe capitalism isn't so bad after all. Give me the fucking poster. Suck up those endorphins from the newly bought item. Accept vulnerabilities of the system and antisystem. Stop being so annoyed and egocentric. Grow up to be nobody, we are full of nobodies. We are silly and fighting the system we support. Paradox. No way out. Visibility is a trap.'

Lenka Vallová's fashion collection, Endlessly Myself, makes use of upcycled deadstock fabric with modular elements which can be added or removed, representing how we can gradually build up or break down or sense of self. Accessory designer Dorota Sloviaková's Glasses project is a collection of 3D printed eyewear inspired by butterflies.

Nicola Horečková's The Sound of Joy is a musical object that takes the concept of the Zen Garden and translates it into sound. The piece features a wooden base on which several metal rings and bowls are attached. Viewers can tap each of the metal sections, generating soothing sounds.
