Urban Coolspot explores the potential for using ceramics in urban environments to create a cool microclimate. Inspired by traditional Egyptian evaporative cooling inventions, the project consists of a modular system of ceramic cylinders that trap runoff water and slowly evaporates, cooling off warm ambient air. ![]() Maciej Głowacki won the second prize for the CRN_01 Hummingbird project which addresses the amount of waste created during the COVID-19 pandemic. To reduce the amount of materials and resources used to product self tests, Głowacki developed a swab that can be produced in one step – using an injection mold. ![]() The Urban Clay project by Michalina Zadykowicz and Sabrina Hass was presented with the third prize. The project looks at how urban clay, excavated during construction works in Vienna can be used by artists and combat supply chain shortages. This year's edition of Łódź Design Festival 2022, under the motto RE:GENERATION, is an incentive to look for answers to the challenges we face at the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century. At the festival are presented activities that foster both individual and systemic regeneration, as well as ways to regenerate not only the natural environment, but also the urban fabric, social institutions, and most importantly – each and everyone of us. This is what its director, Michał Piernikowski, says about the concept of the 11-day festival. The winners of the annual Make Me! competition have been announced at the 2022 Łódź Design Festival!
The competition is open to student and graduate designers and encourages entrants to create future-facing pieces that predict upcoming trends and provide design solutions to the issues facing society.
Some 147 applicants entered the competition from all over world and were whittled down to 25 finalists by a jury of experts comprising of Izabela Bołoz, Krzysztof Kornas, Joanna Krokosz, Tomek Rygalik, Agata Kiedrowicz, Maurizio Burrato, and Michał Piernikowski.
