Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, my concept is focused on the gorgeously bright colours that can be found in natural things. I have focused on tropical plants, flowers and fruit to sustain a focus on The Jungle Book’s key imagery which was my initial inspiration. My project emphasises the colours around us, to a somewhat unrealistic level, to depict the unrealistic standards we have found ourselves surrounded by in this time. A huge amount of fresh food is wasted in the UK each year, simply because it is not believed to fit the visual standards we have come to expect. My final designs are drawings that have been blown up and distorted into shapes that are sometimes not recognisable, but still create beautiful pieces which reflects the thousands of pieces of fruit that gets left behind in UK supermarkets every year. My final collection is a range of large scale of hand tufted rugs, mixing between loop and cut pile, as well as incorporating some hand punched large scale loops to create an interesting mix of tactile textures. These bold, graphic pieces aim to be the centre of attention. They can be used as rugs or wall pieces, to create a mood lifting, eye catching, vibrant statement centre piece in any modern home.
