My collection, ‘FOILED’ is inspired by the sense of touch. In a society, where digital connections have taken over our lives, we are losing touch with our sense of touch. Touch is one of the first as well as the last sensations. We typically think of touch as a pleasant, but not particularly important part of life. The sensation of touch is a fundamental part of our daily experience, influencing who we love, how we heal and what we buy. In the works of human psychology, the De Anima, Aristotle pronounced touch as the most universal of the senses. It is the most intelligent and sensitive sense. When we touch something or someone we are exposed and responsive to what we touch. The collection goes by the tagline “ Grab me, Touch me, Pull me.” It urges the wearer and viewers to want to touch and feel the garments and help give them a whole experience of tactility and play through it. For my textiles innovation, I came up with the idea of fusing light fabrics to aluminium foil. The property of the foiled fabric helps achieve the idea of being able to mould the garment, crunch it and play with it. The foil gives an interesting texture to the fabric and also helps the fabric stay however positioned.
