About:

Hello, I'm Danicca Newman. I’m a recent Ravensbourne graduate with a first class honours BA (HONS) in Fashion Promotion. I'm a creative director and digital content creator with experience editing videos, graphic design and fashion photography. I'm adjustable and versatile, qualified in SEO and managing eCommerce. My mission is to make the fashion industry more inclusive by collaborating with underrepresented groups, especially POC (People of Colour). I believe it is essential to represent a range of skin tones, body types, gender expressions, ages and disabilities, to empower POCs and create change for an inclusive future. This mission derived from my Final Major Project. I created a Sustaina- ble clothing brand named ‘SOMEBODY’, focusing on challenging westernised beauty standards by representing POCs that subvert these ideals to promote body positivity.

SOMEBODY is a luxury sustainable streetwear brand with an additional bi-annual digital and print zine. This brand represents the under-represented and creates opportunities that allow people to re-imagine and explore their ideas through collaboration. The target audience Gen Z and Millennials, are key to the brand as they will be the main collaborators. The demand for collaboration stems from Gen Z becoming more independent, with 65% being bosses or planning to be. We will also collaborate with micro-influencers, non-influencers and artists to provide a platform to share their content and creative ideas on a global scale. Our vision is to make sustainable fashion inclusive by portraying diverse representations of skin tones, body types, gender expressions, ages and disabilities, to empower POCs (People of Colour) and create change. Consumers are becoming more aware of the impact fashion has on the environment. Consequently, they are opting to buy more sustainable clothing. Presently, sustainable brands under-represent POC (People of Colour) by portraying white women who reflect the beauty standard. Representation is important as it can influence the way people perceive others and themselves. 33% of people feel as though they are at a less advantage because of how they look. This brand can reinforce positive views on people of colour by representing a range of different people. This will eventually help the environment as more people will purchase sustainable clothing.
