Fashion Design Menswear with an interest in creating classic garments with a twist.

Continuing on the theme of Bret Easton Ellis novels, I looked at American Psycho, exploring the fine line between sanity and insanity. Taking traditional menswear garments, essentially the uniform of Wall St and applying eerie fabric manipulation techniques and digital print, to convey the fractured mental state of Patrick Bateman. Who while is obsessed with his appearance and is always impeccably dressed, looses his grip on reality and goes on a (much debated) killing spree.

For my pre collection I looked at Bret Easton Ellis' novel Less than Zero (and its film adaptation) exploring the lifestyle of rich yuppie teens in 1980s California. I was inspired by the contrast between their polished exteriors and their fractured mental health, as well as the architecture, interiors and popular culture of the times.

Taking Wes Anderson's film Life Aquatic with Steve Zizzou as my inspiration I created an 8 outfit capsule collection which incorporated a balance of sportswear and tailored garments, using a minimal colour palette.

Set with the theme of Make a Change, I began to investigate gender neutral and unisex clothing, supported by my research essay into 'Fashion's Attitudes to Transgender'. I created two sets of garments; one inspired by abstract expressionist art (mainly Mark Rothko) and the other by my muse Hari Nef and colours with no gender specific connotations.
