About:

Hello, my name is Kexin Zhou, MA student at the University of Southampton. Contemporary Curation is a fantastic major, and being a curator gives me a lot of chances to explore the world by different perspectives. I have proposed my final dissertation 'PART OF YOU' ,and it supposed to be settled at Winchester School of Art Gallery, because of the COVID-19 the gallery should be closed until further information from the school. Thanks to many artists supporting this proposal, it has fabulous artworks in the exhibit list. PART OF YOU - INTRODUCTION illustrates the poster, flyers and visualization of Winchester School of Art Gallery. These are the conceptual images without considering the unique situation. PART OF YOU - ARTWORKS shows artists' works.

‘Breasts, thighs, lips, eyes…guts and balls. Body parts: but also much more’ ——Synnott, A. 1993. Our bodies are not only biological but also socially symbolic. We use our whole body or body parts to express and explore the issues we care about, but at the same time, we limited by our living environment and society, which binds us with invisible shackles. Finally, we only know the physical effects of body parts. PART OF YOU is looking for things that people have in common, that exist in physical form. By feeling the symbolic theme expressed in the works, the audience can resonate with them. Moreover, the exhibition aims to present a diverse perspective, exploring more parts of the body in social or personal symbols.
