Her independent practice interrogates the tension between location and identity, utilizing maps and fictional narratives to question existing labels and physical borders. She advocates for self investigation through design, and develops methods to create alternative personal geographies, which incorporate a more nuanced definition of where a person is from.

Most people are not defined by a singular place. Where you were born, where your family is from, where you used to live, and where you currently live can vastly differ. All of these places play a role in your locational identity, as formative locations instrumental to your personal development. Despite this, we are frequently asked for an overly simplified answer regarding locational identity, misrepresenting or negating those with more complex identities such as multi-nationals, immigrants, and diaspora. -- Self Cities is a workshop series aimed at challenging this oversimplification through graphic communication design, specifically collage and mapmaking. During the workshops participants combine their formative locations to create a complex city that is not limited to geographic reality and existing labels. To showcase the maps created in the workshops thus far, I designed a printed map as well as a website, www.selfcities.com This workshop series is ongoing.
