My project explored my belief in witches, mainly inpired by Portuguese folklore.Drawing deeply from my Portuguese heritage, I delve into the enchanting world of witchcraft as told through the tales and traditions of my ancestors. One legend specifically talks about witches as women fully integrated into rural communities ,with normal appearances that no one suspects. Historically, they were often married with their husbands unaware of their indentitiies. This connects to my use of upcycling wedding dresses into textiles pieces.Through my research and design,I created a narrative where each piece has its own story and spell.I focus on Love Spells, Banishing Spells, Beauty Spells and Healing Spells, creating a narrative and recipe for each piece.I also draw inspiration and imagery from Grimms' Fairy Tailes, using the magical and mesmerizing illustrations by Arthur Rackham to guide my exploration of colour and imagery.
