About

I am a recent graduate in Fashion knitwear design and knitted textiles at Nottingham Trent University. I have a particular interest in menswear silhouettes, combining traditional craftsmanship with subtle, comforting textures. Making conscious yarn choices aiming for natural fibres that enhance the feeling of comfort. In my final major project, I have taken inspiration from natural landscapes and my personal heritage using design as a tool to connect. On my placement year, I gained new insight into the knitwear industry from both a design and manufacturing point of view. I continued to develop my design skills through producing trend and colour boards and assisting on designing and sampling of new products. Whilst gaining an understanding of the practicalities of running a business through building professional relationships, assisting in meetings and planning PR events.

Menswear Textiles - Knit

‘Back to Glenbrack' is a menswear collection inspired by my family heritage. Glenbrack is my grandfathers birthplace in Co. Galway on the west coast of Ireland. I have fond memories of Ireland through my grandfathers storytelling and visits as a young child. In this collection, I explored traditional workwear silhouettes whilst aiming to create a comforting collection through use of natural fibres and subtle textures. I have taken inspiration from old family photos and the natural landscape to inform colour and fabric choices. The beginning of the concept started with a quote by W.B Yeats 'And may these characters remain when all is ruin once again' this is carved outside Thoor Ballylee Tower which my great great grandfather restored. This quote encourages me to think about the importance of preserving craftsmanship and how design can be used as a tool in remembering someone we have lost.
