Maria Fernanda Serra Almeida Leite is a graduate from Cornell University holding a degree in Fashion Design and a minor in Anthropology. Her thesis collection explores the emotional and physical attachment that she holds to the sounds and presence of the Kiskadee bird, Brazil, and the person that gave her life; her mother. Through a series of shapes that embrace the body, structures that create movement, and colors that reflect her country; she tells the story of love between her and her motherland.
The song of the Kiskadee birds calls me home; to the smell of rain, grass, and the stains of red on my soles. I crave for its song, I crave the country that made me and my mother who raised me. I am tied to Brazil through my memories, through my skin that came from my mother, through the call of the Kiskadee that wakes me from my slumber. This collection explores the emotional and physical attachment that I hold to the sounds and presence of the Kiskadee bird, Brazil, and the person that gave me life; my mother.
