Chapters: rest, tilt, pause, nest

Chapters is a collection of public furniture designed for London’s parks, inspired by the quiet presence of book readers. In most parks, you will find the classic double bench, often occupied by just one person. Chapters reimagines this norm by offering silhouettes intentionally shaped for individual use. Each of the four pieces —Rest, Pause, Tilt, Nest— can create a personal moment within the public space and invite different experiences, whether you’re immersed in a novel, resting between moments, or simply taking in your surroundings. Chapters can also be used for social third spaces by multiplying their units and curating them accordingly. After observational studies, interviews, and design development, their forms have been shaped to respond intuitively to natural movements and postures, encouraging comfort and exploration. While their forms vary, they share a unifying olive green tone, chosen to blend harmoniously with the natural landscape rather than distract from it. Crafted from powder-coated mild steel and iroko wood, the materials are durable, tactile, and well-suited for outdoor use.
