About
In my practice, I am interested in only using natural fibre , dyes and print pastes, which run through the body of my work. I aim to create a captivating blend of fluid, layered and dynamic textiles, drawing on my range of skills in print and fabric manipulation. My work is characterised by prolific experimentation and process; I am driven by a profound commitment to exploring the convergence of tradition and innovation within textile artistry.
The essence of my practice is merging ancient dyeing techniques, creating my own recipes from nature, with digital imagery. I use layers to subvert the original image using a blurry, faded, fogged effect to soften down shapes, creating a mysterious alternate reality and a questioning of how my dyslexia subconsciously impacts the work.
Decoding the blurs of the digital age, seeking escapism into nature.
For the degree show, I will be presenting a fashion-focused textile collection titled Neuro-Nurturing: Decoding the Blurs of the Digital Age. This body of work explores the tension between our overstimulating digital lives and the grounding, meditative qualities of nature. My designs are rooted in personal experience, reflecting the sensory and visual distortions associated with dyslexia. Through photography, digital manipulation, and hand-rendered techniques, I aim to create layered textile samples that blur the boundary between natural forms and digital aesthetics. Sustainability is central to my approach. I will be using only natural dyeing and natural print pastes as well as only using organic cotton, silk, wool, and linen. The collection draws from both microscopic and satellite imagery, merging organic and synthetic looking colours to create a artificial perspectives. Inspired by artists like Lucas Dupuy and Anthony Gormley, as well as ideas from neuroaesthetics and AI, my process prioritises abstraction, texture, and colour.
