About
I am an illustrator based in the U.K. In my practice, I
create digital illustrations taking inspiration from natural
world. I wish to reflect the dark and romantic beauty infused in nature. Contextually, my
work sits within the realm of fantasy, blending elements of magical realism, using dream like imagery to combine the natural world with the
human world. Tonally, my
work is dark, I want people to see that although the imagery is darker and
ometimes other worldly, they can see a reflection of themselves within it. I continue to create because I want to paint microcosmic reflections
of the human condition through a lens of fantastical tales and poetical
influences. To do this, I use mixed media, combining elements of traditional
drawing such as watercolour, and three-
dimensional aspects such as plasticine clay with
digital finishing touches with colour to create a distinct atmosphere.
edaphon is an exploration into the concept of the afterlife through a fantastical lens. the main inspiration comes from the forest floor and its microorganisms, roots and fungi. i created an underground world, where the dead sink beneath the forest floor and return as spirits, intertwined with the earth and surrounding beings. the final outcome developed from a series of mixed media illustrations, presented in an A5 book. my process is complicated and i wanted my final project to be a thorough exploration of process and manipulation of materials such as plasticine clay.
