About

Hi, I’m Gwen Gyuwon Baek, a versatile menswear candidate with knowledge in men's fashion trends, tailoring techniques, and construction methods. In my MA Final collection titled 'Fluid Tailoring,' I explore the fundamental aspects of menswear tailoring, challenging the conventional notions of strong silhouettes, precise cuts, intricate details, and traditional fabric choices. Drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Madame Gres, as well as contemporary visionaries such as Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, I seek a more nuanced and contemporary approach to tailoring. My collection features innovative draping techniques that pay homage to the past while embracing the present. Notably, the inclusion of strategically placed buttons accentuates the chest area, subtly infusing sensuality into the garments. To push the boundaries of conventional tailoring, I've conducted extensive 3D experiments and created toiles using unconventional materials like printed leather, carpets, and even car seats. Through these investigations, I've discovered a synergy between seemingly contrasting elements, resulting in a captivating fusion of boldness and subtlety that encapsulates my interpretation of modern chic within the realm of tailoring.Through 'Fluid Tailoring,' I envision a contemporary and glamorous man who confidently dons draped tailoring. This man is sensuous, bold, yet shrouded in an air of mystery, transcending traditional gender boundaries while celebrating the aesthetic allure of both menswear and womenswear.
