Folkhemmet is a term coined by the Swedish social democrat Per Albin Hansson in 1928 and used to describe an ideal Swedish welfare society. My project focuses on the materiality of Swedish public housing architecture built in the late 60s, early 70s. Landscape architecture and architecture that was progressive in its time and considered as an ideal way of building cities are today considered dull and meagre. The prefabricated module which these buildings are made of was a product of industrialised building techniques which shaped the way these suburbs where built. In my project I focus on these modules, isolating them from their structures by photographing them and then physically cut them out of the original negative. In this way I sculpt new structures deconstructing the houses and deconstructing the idea of the static and dull cityscape.
