About
My name is Amy Pearson and I am a Graduate from the University of Brighton. I study Fashion Design with Business Studies (BA) and have recently completed my final collection ‘GUIDE ME AS I GROW’.My work is often inspired by the environment I was surrounded by as a child. Mainly drawing inspiration from the delicately crafted garden my mother curated for me as I grew up, I like to pay close attention to natural patterns and intricate details nature has to offer when examining closely.With my grandad who worked in the film industry throughout his life, my muses are often inspired by him and the horror films he used to work on.
I always aim to tell a story through my work, inspired by my grandad (a natural story teller throughout his work in the film industry). This collection follows the navigation of personal growth and change through the life cycle of a flower. I have written a short narrative to immerse the viewer into the story I have created within these three looks, following a young girl entangled into the walks of life of a flower, mirroring the changes I have had to overcome in my own life. Through designing this collection, I have become more appreciative and fascinated with the intricate structures and textures that surrounded me as a child in my garden, all grown by my mother. Through experimenting with natural dyes, hand pleating techniques and organic draping, this collection pulls the viewer into an immersive world my mum created for me. I enjoy celebrating a hand-crafted and personal approach to designing, reflected in my collection. This look is curating by toiling and being progressively altered as it is made, valuing the craftsmanship in construction, whilst honouring the future of the planet through limited fabric waste.
